  • The BIG ask (DfE Survey)

    Mon 19 Apr 2021 DfE

The new Children’s Commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, has today launched The Big Ask – the largest ever consultation with children aged 4 to 17 in England. It aims to find out children’s concerns and aspirations about the future, so that we can put children at the heart of our country’s recovery from the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

In school we will be encouraging pupils to complete the survey but parents, care leavers and those working with children are also invited to complete the adult survey [CLICK HERE] to share their views about the future for children and young people today, and what they think is holding young people back.

The results from this survey will help the Children’s Commissioner identify the barriers preventing children from reaching their potential, put forward solutions and set ambitious goals for the country to achieve.

  • Easter COVID Winter Grant payment to families

    Thu 01 Apr 2021

The COVID Winter Grant (CWG) scheme had been extended over the Easter period with Walsall Council allocated a further £394,491.00 to support the most vulnerable families in the borough. £20 will be allocated for each child who was entitled to support from the CWG scheme in February 2021 and who are still on an active claim for Council Tax Support.

For those who were entitled to Council Tax Support from 1st December 2020 but have not received any payment through the CWG scheme previously, there will be a letter issued to invite them to claim for both the February and March 2021 payments (this is a maximum of £40 per child).

This is in addition to the Easter holiday activities and food programme targeted at all free school meal and young carers in Walsall. The scheme offers access to free, fun and enriching activities over the Easter break and access to healthy meal boxes.
