West Midlands Police Update
We know the recent tragic event in Well Lane has deeply affected our community, both young and old. Ensuring everyone’s safety, especially our students and school staff, is one of our most important jobs.
We would like to reassure the community that we are doing all we can to bring justice for the crimes. We continue to support families throughout this extremely difficult time.
We have since made three arrests. Jake Sambrook, aged 22, has been charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life following the tragic incident on 8 July. He appeared before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Saturday for a first hearing and was remanded into custody.
A 17-year-old boy and a man aged 18 - who were also arrested last week - have been bailed with strict conditions which means they must live outside of the West Midlands. They must also stay out of Walsall whilst our enquiries continue.
We are using special police section 60 powers which gives us the ability to check people and prevent further trouble.
We review these powers every day to make sure they are used appropriately.
You will see more police officers around schools and colleges. They are there to make you feel safe and to listen to any worries you might have. Please talk to them if you feel scared or need help.
We are here to support you during this tough time. We are committed to keeping our community safe. If you need assistance or have concerns, please speak with our officers or contact your local police.”
